Storm surge warning

Coastal flood warning due to waves issued jointly by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (Science) and the Meteorological Service of Canada - Quebec region on 2017-12-13 at 5:00 am EST.

An intense low pressure system from the Great Lakes will reach Eastern Quebec today. As it approaches, easterly winds will reach up to 90 kilometres per hour.

Despite the fact that we are not currently in period of high tidal range, very low pressure combined with strong to high winds will cause coastal flooding in the vicinity of the following locales beginning this evening.

Rimouski - Mont-Joli: 2017-12-13, from 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Matane: 2017-12-13, from 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Les Escoumins - Forestville: 2017-12-13, from 09:00 am to 01:00 pm.

Baie-Comeau: 2017-12-13, from 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Sainte-Anne-des-Monts - Grande-Vallée: 2017-12-13, 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Forillon Park - Gaspé - Percé: 2017-12-13, 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

New-Carlisle - Chandler: 2017-12-13, 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Sept-Îles - Port-Cartier: 2017-12-13, from 08:00 am to 12:00 pm.

Minganie: 2017-12-13, from 07:30 am to 11:30 am.

Anticosti: 2017-12-13, 08:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Coastal erosion is possible in vulnerable areas. People close to the shoreline should stay on the lookout for worsening conditions.

Storm surge warnings are issued when water levels pose a threat to coastal regions.

Winter storm warning in effect for:

  • Le Bic - Rimouski area
  • Mont-Joli area
  • Rimouski Wildlife Reserve area

A winter storm will affect the province of Quebec through Thursday. A total of 20 to 50 centimetres of snow is expected depending on the regions. In addition, strong to severe winds will cause widespread blowing snow.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow. Road closures are possible.

Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
